Townhouse, as a typology of housing, was prompted by the nature of the plot and its low-rise residential surrounding. Small parceling of dwelling units helped to preserve the scale of the existing built environment, while the flexible structure made it possible to create various types of shared spaces and ensure the intimacy of private courtyards.
The empty space between the houses acts as a local traffic-free street for residents and maintenance. Moreover, some space is left without any predetermined function, which is to be defined by the “big family” that is likely to appear here in future.
Blinder-like walls in private courtyards provide additional visual and noise insulation of units, whereas overhanging parts help to avoid the overexposure of living areas to heat in summer.
In spite of their modest size, living areas are comfortable due to their proportions and natural light effect. Another peculiarity of the project is its simple construction technology involving local materials. On the whole, this low-scale type of dwelling is a rare thing on the Ukrainian market and long-awaited by future residents.
