The proposed school in Chyne is designed to become something more than a school. Besides playing a huge role in organizing community life, the new club school provides all the necessary facilities for modern trends in school education. The volume divides the plot into two parts: a public space in front of the entrance and a more intimate school yard. Because of the difference in topography, the school yard is below the street level.
The school’s massive solid volume stands out against the surrounding low-rise residential development, thus emphasizing the significance of the building. The school is organized along the north-south axis, with classrooms facing the east, the south and the west, and the gym having the northern exposure.
Functionally, the school building is divided into two blocks: an educational block and a block with public and sport facilities. So students and general visitors do not disturb each other. The central core of the place is a system of atriums that penetrate the building on all the levels, creating a continuous multifunctional space with recreational and communication facilities.
