Cours d’honneur are about privacy and community

We are working on the project of the residential space “Cours d’honneur in Sichynskoho St.” in Lviv.

It was a challenge for us to find a typology of housing that could work in the shadow of the high wall of the neighboring building, while at the same time forming a space for the development of communities of residents and articulating the boundaries of public spaces from private ones.

Our solution was to combine individual urban villas into groups that form semi-open courtyards on different sides – cours d’honneur. They not only diversify the interior space of the buildings, but also harmoniously integrate with the urban environment. At the same time, the typology of urban villas that we have chosen for this project clearly divides the urban space into public active spaces and private cozy areas.

The space of the residential development is adaptive for different age groups and can be filled depending on the needs and desires of the community. All residents of different groups of villas have access to common playgrounds, sports areas, multifunctional barbecue areas, or joint events such as meetings, rallies, furniture making, or other activities.

The zoning of the residential development area ensures the creation of an internal pedestrian connection between residential buildings, common and private spaces.
