The city villa in Baden is designed for a well-established neighborhood located near the main attractions of this spa town: thermal baths, river and rosarium. The surrounding manor houses defined “a country house” type of the new building, while the programme was rather “collective” in its character. The rhythmic pattern and the proportions of the volumes and the windows result from the analysis of local traditions. The bay-windows are extensions to common living premises opening a panoramic view over the surrounding area.

The city villa typology offers a variety of “living forms” to its inhabitants. The apartments on the upper floors suggest a more urban lifestyle, whereas the spacious apartments on the lower level enjoy immediate access to the garden. The underground floor is exposed to the gentle hill slope. Placed in the core of the building, the transparent lift shaft invites daylight inside the house.
